Drying Weather has Finally Come

The past week has finally brought what seems to be an end to the wet spell we experienced early in the month.  Corn has started a steady decline in moisture and we are hoping to get back to harvesting the first of next week when moistures should be down around 20%.  The soybeans are coming along as well and our early seed beans should be ready by mid week.  Despite the low prices, the crop looks to be  well above average.  It will be a delicate balance of evaluating moisture, yield, price and crop insurance levels to ensure the best economic outcome during this volatile marketing year.

Before harvest gets into full swing we have been finishing up some of the summer work.  We are nearly finished hauling limestone, mowing roadsides, and tidying up paperwork.  Debbie’s brother, David Moore, has come to work with us full time.  David previously worked for the Cross Brothers John Deere Dealership in Clinton.  He will be a valued asset to our operation where labor has been one of our most limited resources.
