Fall is Near

We were able to take advantage of some discount drying at the elevator and take out some corn last week.  Since last Thursday we have taken out about 110 acres of early corn.  Moisture levels have been between 27 and 32% with yields as good as we were expecting.  Most of the corn looks like it is two to three weeks away from being dry enough to harvest.  Soybeans are coming along as well, but yields look less promising than the corn.  We have also started hauling limestone to the field so it is ready to spread after harvest.  This summer we purchased another semi and a dump trailer so we would have the ability to haul lime directly from the quarry.  Hauling direct will save us and crop share landowners 60% on lime costs.
