The 2014 Crop Year has Begun

It has been awhile since our last update, but the weather has made for great field conditions this spring.  We have made much progress over the last two weeks.  Before Easter we were able to get the pre-plant corn herbicide and nitrogen on all the corn ground.  We started planting corn in the afternoon on Tuesday the 22nd and were rained out on Sunday the 27th.  In that time we were able to get over two thirds of the corn in the ground and the conditions have been better than we’ve had for years.  We have up until today had 0.9″ of rain, which couldn’t have come at a better time.  Even in our no-till farms, moisture was becoming scarce.  The grandson’s were here for the weekend over Easter weekend and were able to get in some field time and an Easter egg hunt on Sunday.  It looks like we may have some more rain this week, which will be welcomed, and hopefully we can get a couple days in over the weekend to finish the corn planting.
